A get-ready-for-spring fashion guide

Most students are counting down the days until the warm California sun shines again. The winter blues are in desperate need of abandonment, and what better way to take a leap toward spring than shop for a new wardrobe? Spring clothes bring a smile to the face after being bulked up in sweaters and long-sleeve shirts to protect against the winter chill. The bright colors are a welcome addition to any closet. This season, there are a few items that are sure to please.

* One trend that will appear in store windows is wedge sandals. Feet will be happy to poke out of this cute new style. The sandals, which feature a height-boosting wedge as well as straps of any color, are a must-have for any spring outfit. Most styles have a strap or a tie that secures in a bow around the ankle. From patterns, to polka dots, pinks to greens, jewels to flowers, almost anything can adorn wedge sandals. There will be a plethora of styles available, so start looking!

* Feeling bohemian? If you aren't at the moment, you may change your mind, once this style starts overpowering stores. The hippy-chic look includes knee-length full skirts, lots of gold and silver and bracelets galore. To complete this look, try flat jeweled slippers, which are a cute way to give your feet a break from the pointy-toe heels that dominated winter fashion. Top the look off with a bohemian-style shoulder bag and you will have a perfect ensemble for this season.

* For guys and girls, simple, brightly colored tops are a necessity. For men, a basic polo in a loud color will get you noticed. For women, polos and layered tops will be the uniform. This spring, any mix of colors that could possibly go together will, so don't be afraid to try new combinations. Vivid colors will help to brighten up any day, even if it's full of spring showers.

* Fun, flirty, floral prints are another style that will be seen in abundance this spring. From dresses to tops, the feminine patterns come in an assortment of colors and styles, sure to please anyone. Floral patterns are flattering on most figures, and bring a hint of spring freshness. Visit Bananarepublic.com for specific pieces.

* While spring tends to be warm, there is still a cool breeze in the air that calls for a cute cover-up. For an alternative to bulky sweatshirts, try a fun, light-colored cardigan. Cardigans will be in numerous pale colors this season, perfect as a shield from the nighttime chill. They can be worn over a dress, with jeans or to top off a skirt. Pair them with a different color underneath or coordinate with the same color for a sleek, professional look. Try one with cropped sleeves for the ultimate spring look.
