News — This section covers exactly what it says in the name: all things news. Traditional journalism with hard-hitting coverage, captivating photos, and intriguing interviews. Stories will be assigned to writers and editors on a need-to-do basis, along with any additional coverage of your choice.
Scene — TSC’s name for what many newspapers call “arts and entertainment.” Think movie, theater, music, and book reviews, celebrity news, art and literary exhibits, travel tips, concerts, festivals and overall updates on cultural trends. Stories will be assigned to writers and editors on a need-to-do basis, along with any additional coverage of your choice.
Opinion — As the section with the fewest rules and regulations, opinion writers are free to cover any issue they witness on and off Santa Clara University’s campus. Of course, other sections also have free reign to select topics, but opinion is not tied down by traditional journalistic formatting and execution.
Sports — Anyone interested in sports reporting and journalism will love our Sports section: we cover men’s and women’s sports, intramurals, and tournaments. Santa Clara University athletics is our focus, but writers also cover local Bay Area and national sports news. Writers must attend one sporting event per week. Stories will be assigned to writers and editors on a need-to-do basis, along with any additional coverage of your choice.
Photography Team — Our photographers assist writers in capturing life in Santa Clara by both traveling with them to events - sporting, arts and educational - and taking photos throughout their day-to-day lives. Photos are posted alongside articles, and therefore must be relevant to the story. We also create an annual photo spread centred around a different annual theme. Required photos will be assigned to photographers on a need-to-do basis, along with any additional photo coverage of your choice.
Writers are hired to write under one section, while photographers and illustrators work with all sections. Editors may write in multiple sections if they wish.
Freelancers may write for any section they wish.
