WOMEN'S SOCCER

Pepperdine 1, Santa Clara 0

The fifth-ranked Broncos (14-4-2, 4-2-1 WCC) finished the regular season against the No. 17 Waves with a 1-0 loss. The game-winning goal came on a penalty kick in the 81st minute of the match. Santa Clara barraged the Wave goalkeeper with 21 shots, 12 on goal, but could not score. The team received a No. 2 seed for the playoffs which begin Friday at Buck Shaw against Fresno State.

MEN'S SOCCER

Santa Clara 1, San Diego 1

Neither team could find the net in two overtime periods as the Broncos tied the Toreros in an important conference match-up. Senior reserve forward Ted Kristensson scored the Broncos' lone goal. The Torero score was the first goalkeeper Kevin Sweeney has allowed in six contests.

Loyola Marymount 2, Santa Clara 1

The Broncos (12-4-2, 6-2-2 WCC) dropped to a No. 11 ranking after losing to the Lions in a close match. Despite outshooting its opposition 16-9, only Kristensson could find the net, scoring for the second time in two games. Sophomore Peter Lowry had a chance in the 90th minute, but he sent a hard shot over the crossbar. Sunday's match marked the final home match for the eight seniors of the men's soccer team. The team remains in first place in the conference and finishes the season on the road with matches today against Gonzaga and Saturday at Portland.

VOLLEYBALL

Santa Clara 3, Portland 0

On the road in Portland, the Broncos swept the Pilots, led by freshman WCC Player of the Month Brittany Lowe, who killed 16 with a .467 hitting percentage. Senior Cassie Perret finished with an outstanding .632 clip and 14 kills. Sophomore Annalisa Muratore chipped in with nine with nine kills in the 30-26, 30-13, 33-31 win.

Santa Clara 3, Gonzaga 2

Good news this week for the volleyball team (22-1, 11-0 WCC) as they moved into the AVCA Top 10 for the first time in team history and clinched the West Coast Conference after the five-game, come-from-behind road win against the Bulldogs. They also extended their team record for most consecutive wins with their 15th. After losing the first two games 28-30 and 26-30, the Broncos stormed back to win the final three 30-22, 30-26, 15-10. Junior Kim McGiven led the Broncos with 23 kills and a .304 hitting percentage. Perret ended the two-hour, two-minute marathon with a kill.

MEN'S WATER POLO

Santa Clara 5, Santa Cruz 3

With the defeat of Western Water Polo Association rival Santa Cruz, the water polo team moved its record back over .500 to 14-13. Sophomore Josh Early led the offense with two goals and redshirt junior goalkeeper Mike Petersen anchored the defense with nine blocks and two steals.
