Santa Clara 6, Portland 3

The Broncos took two of three from the Pilots during the weekend series with a three-run victory in Sunday's game at Portland.

The Broncos scored four runs in the second inning, which was enough for starter Donald Brandt to get the victory, giving up two runs and five hits in the five-inning outing. Steve Kalush pitched four innings in relief to seal the victory.

Third baseman Gabe Alcantar led the way, going 3-for-5, and shortstop Jon Karcich drove in two runs and scored one.

San Jose State 4, Santa Clara 0

Santa Clara was shut out for the second time this season in a 4-0 loss Tuesday against San Jose State.

Spartans' pitcher Josh Amberson pitched a complete game, striking out a career-high 12 batters.

The Broncos couldn't get anything started against Amberson, as he retired the first 14 hitters before left fielder Evan LeBlanc lined a single off the starter.

Broncos' starter Sean O'Neill pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up four runs in the loss.

Women's Water Polo

Santa Clara 7, Colorado State 6

The Broncos held off the Colorado State Rams on Sunday behind two goals from utility Amy Lamb for a tight 7-6 victory in Davis.

Santa Clara entered the fourth quarter leading 7-4, but allowed the Rams to score twice before goalkeeper Kristin Barnes stopped Colorado State's final shot at the buzzer for the win.

The victory gave the Broncos a 3-1 record at the Aggie Shootout this weekend, tying Cal State Northridge for second behind UC Davis.
