Gas outage cuts off hot water to west side of campus Wednesday

A loose pipe forced the university to turn off the gas Wednesday, leaving half the university without hot water.

A crew was digging trenches behind the Arts and Sciences building Wednesday when the pipe to come loose and gas started leaking, said Assistant Vice President of University Operations Joe Sugg. Due to the leak, the gas had to be cut off.

Sugg said that due to the open air and the wind blowing, the gas leak did not pose a safety hazard.

Food service locations in Benson Memorial Center and Adobe Lodge were forced to alter their menus due to the lack of gas.

The leak occurred around 7:30 a.m., and the pipe was fixed at 4 p.m., with the gas being restored shortly thereafter.
