Crisis event at San Jose State
Political science professor Jane Curry will join a panel of San Jose State University professors on Friday, April 11, at an international crisis event focused on genocide, terrorism and environmental issues that lead to conflict.
Students from multiple schools in the Bay Area have been invited to the free dinner event hosted by Pi Sigma Alpha at SJSU, stated political science department administrative assistant Julie Wong in an e-mail.
The event, which runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the University Room at SJSU, will include brief talks followed by a question-and-answer session with the panel of professors. Interested students must reserve a spot with Wong at jwong@scu.edu by noon on Friday, April 4.
The Santa Clara wins 11 awards in statewide contest
The Santa Clara newspaper staff took home 11 student journalism awards presented by the California College Media Association in San Francisco on March 1.
CCMA annually honors the best in student journalism in California, and the organization chose this year's winners from over 900 entries in more than 75 categories. The Santa Clara claimed multiple awards in two categories.
In the best news feature category, Megan O'Connor won first place and Jeremy Herb won second, and Chris Woodhouse won first place for best sports column, while Chris Furnari took second. Additionally, Brittany Benjamin won first place for best A&E story, and Katie Powers won third place for best A&E column.
In two more first-place finishes, Mary Georgevich and Michele Enos won first place for news series, and The Santa Clara editorial board took home first place for best editorial.
The Santa Clara also won second place in general excellence category and third place in best overall design. The newspaper's Web site also won third place for best interactivity.
