Giants off to a Strong Start in their 2022 Campaign
Can the Giants manage to replicate the 2021 season's success?
After a delayed start and an offseason fiasco, we are now well underway in the 2022 Major League Baseball (MLB) regular season.
From ballpark food to entertainment, spring spirit is in the air. Joy and laughter gleam all around as we approach a more COVID-free reality.
San Francisco fans have brought the electricity to Oracle Park every home match up. The Giants currently sport a 10-7 home record, and the fans are responding positively as they show up and support their home team.
The San Francisco Giants currently reside in third place in the National League West, three games behind division-rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Thus far, they’ve managed to win 19 games out of 31 games.
They have a combined 0.244 batting average as a team and are averaging 4.93 runs per game. They’ve managed to score 31 home runs and 148 total runs.
Star center fielder and Palo Alto native Joc Pederson leads the team with six home runs but has been in and out of the lineup due to a groin strain. Another notable standout is Wilmer Flores, with a batting average of .270 and 19 runs batted in.
On the mound, star pitcher Logan Webb leads the team in innings pitched with 35.1 and has recorded an average ERA of 3.82 (tied for 45th in the league). Webb has also allowed the most hits and runs on the team with 36 and 14 respectively. Carlos Rodon, on the other hand, leads the team with four wins on the mound, an ERA of 1.80, 53 strikeouts, and an allowed batting average of .165.
If we recall from last season, the Giants managed to shock the league, winning a league-high 107 games, earning them a division title. They’ll look to take a piece of that formula to replicate that success this year.
The San Francisco Giants are currently riding a five-game winning streak and will hit the road to face the St. Louis Cardinals on the night of Friday the 13th. The game is expected to commence at 5:15 PM, with Logan Webb set to make the start.
