Kat Georgiadis Is The Future of Bronco Volleyball
Everything looks bright as new leaders step into position
Santa Clara women’s volleyball looks to have one of their youngest rosters in recent memory, and junior libero Kat Gerogiadis is stepping into the leadership role. Her loud voice and alternate jersey identify her on the court; her authority and guidance earned her the co-captain role before the season even started.
Coming from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Georgiadis’ leadership already shines among her teammates early in the 2022-23 season.
“As a libero, you have to be the back row captain. You need to be able to keep the back row under control and on task,” Georgiadis said. “I understood this was something I needed to have when playing this position.”
Her dream of becoming a NCAA Division I athlete is being realized everyday, and her appreciation of the opportunity is palpable. She currently has 194 career digs and some service aces on the season in only 14 games, and shows no signs of slowing down as West Coast Conference (WCC) play gets underway.
“This is basically everything I’ve manifested ever since I was young,” Georgiadis said. “This is the environment I want to learn and grow in.”
Georgiadis is certainly fostering an atmosphere on and off the court that coaches, fans, and others will continue to be proud of. Check out her official athletics feature here.
Pushing through hard digs, close huddles and long practices, she continues to illustrate all the best characteristics of a leader and embodies a promising future as the face of Bronco volleyball. She’s kept morale up, encouraged her teammates no matter the context and brings 110% effort every step of the way.
“My coaches and teammates have enhanced my growth as a player and person,” Georgiadis said. “They continue to support me but also push me, whether that’s in practice, a game or in the classroom as we are all striving for excellence.”
Not only is she a leader at the collegiate level, but she is also making gains on the international stage. Georgiadis was recently called up to the Canadian senior indoor women’s volleyball team, a huge honor for a player her age. She hopes to lead them to their first appearance in the Olympics since the 1996, and their first appearance in the World Championships since 2014.
Georgiadis appeared on court for the Canadian team throughout the summer of 2022 and looks to bring that experience to the Leavey Center this season. Her skills and time with high level competitors will certainly help elevate her young teammates and the team as a whole.
Being a leader often means leaving a legacy, and when asked, Georgiadis explained that she wants to frame hers around hard work and determination.
“The legacy I want to leave at Santa Clara is one that was kind hearted but also a go-getter,” Georgiadis said. “I want the future athletes to recognize that nothing is out of reach if you truly work hard enough and are a good person!”
Georgiadis is certainly illustrating that, corralling her underclassmen teammates while remaining extremely approachable and kind. She’s already making her mark, learning under her predecessors and helping lead Bronco volleyball to a bright future.
Her legacy will go beyond the red and white of Santa Clara and into representing her home country of Canada, where she hopes to elevate her game on the biggest stage of them all.
