Letter to the Editor: smoking ban

I found very interesting your recent article about SCU's receiving a "D" from the county for its campus tobacco use policies. Ten years ago I suggested to the administration that Benson's no-smoking rule be extended to include the outdoor patio between the fountain and the Mission Bakery Cafe, since many people eat there and a single smoker can ruin it for everyone else. Nothing came of my suggestion then, but I think the time is now more than ripe for implementing this simple idea. In addition to the annoyance factor, we know a lot more now about the harmful effects of second-hand smoke.
