MTV’s Tanisha Long Takes Bronco Stage
‘Girl Code’ star serves up comedy on campus tour

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]here were about 80 people sitting in The Bronco last Tuesday evening enjoying their burgers and fries, waiting to be entertained.
Tanisha Long entered the room and was met with applause. Then came her first crack of the night.
“I get to yell into microphones all the time and people cheer for me.”
A current cast member of MTV’s Girl Code, Long opened up the floor by asking students their majors and grade levels and describing the audience members as looking “bright-eyed and bushy-tailed and sweet and sober.”
She received more applause — something she’s used to.
Santa Clara is Long’s fourth stop so far on her fall college tour, having already visited Iowa State University, Maryville University and Georgia State University in the past month.
Before the show, a paper was passed around by an Activities Programming Board member for audience members to write down any questions they had for Long to answer during the show. Long jokingly told the audience that her answers are “terrible advice that will ruin your life.”
One student asked how she entered the industry. Long said that she moved to NYC from Philadelphia in 2006 and did free improv shows for six years in basements until a friend on MTV’s Guy Code recommended that she audition for the spin-off, Girl Code.
She talked about student loans, how Drake follows her on Instagram, why she hates the phrase ‘on fleek,’ her armpit sweating problem and her personal number one rule when it comes to girl code: “just be [expletive] nice to other girls.”
APB usually hosts one to two comedy events per quarter, but Tuesday night’s performance is the only one of the Fall 2015 quarter due to Tanisha’s prominence.
The APB Comedy and Events team works with Babco Entertainment LLC, a full service concert event management and booking agency. They received a list of comedians and decided that they would like a female comedian this quarter, according to Elena Radding, APB’s Comedy and Speaker Events Manager.
Tanisha Long’s name was on the list and the Girl Code-loving ABP team knew she was the one to choose.
“We watched her videos on YouTube and thought she was really funny,” said Radding. Long is currently on a college tour, so her jokes were fitting for a college audience.
APB’s Comedy Nights usually have student openers to get word about the event out to more students.
To open Tuesday’s show, Santa Clara’s “Inoperable Humor” presented several improvisation games. Senior Andres Maldonado and sophomore Caleb Zatto acted out scenes involving Chapstick and Patrick Star, and even invited audience members up on stage for a pretend vacation to North Korea.
