NYT Endorses Two Democratic Presidential Candidates

On Sunday, Jan. 19, The New York Times chose to endorse two Democratic presidential candidates — Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minn. for the party’s moderate wing and Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Mass. for the party’s progressive wing.

When mentioning other frontrunners Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden, they focused on their ages as being reasons why they might not be fit for president. The paper noted that there were “serious concerns” about Sanders’ health and stated that Biden should pass the torch to a new generation of political leaders.

In past election years, the Times has chosen popular figures in the party establishment to endorse. In 2016, the Times endorsed Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primaries. In 2008, they endorsed Barack Obama. The endorsement was made by the Times Editorial Board.
