Pikes prove they're kinds of the Jungle
By Maryann Dakkak
The Jungle Party this weekend will definitely stick in my mind as the best party I've ever been to at this campus. Hearing that it was not a huge success last year had me worried, but I came back knowing the highest truth: Pikes know how to throw a party.
The lot covered in sand, the fences covered in palm leaves, a waterfall off the roof and a smoky volcano gave the day party the Hawaiian-Jungle feel they were going for. Adding to the dcor was the attire people chose to wear: Hawaiian shirts, green skirts/pants, animal print, etc. Everyone was in the best of party moods. People I didn't know were smiling and saying hello. Even the sun had come out to play into the Jungle theme.
And of course there were the Budweiser girls, yes boys who missed out, there were four Budweiser girls in tight Pike shirts flirting with attendees.
Now, to keep the party kosher, there were security guards, a bid check-in and wrist-bands for those of us lucky enough to be 21 and up, along with third party alcohol servers.
I was also pleasantly surprised to run into some non-Broncos. It's nice to see that we can sometimes impress USCers and Sonoma Staters with our parties, which doesn't happen very often.
If little touches make parties, Pikes know how to do it. Their jungle juice (some of the strongest I've ever encountered) had pieces of fruit in it (which made for a great breakfast since most hadn't eaten before the noon start of the party).
Amongst the usual goldfish eating (40 goldfish were brought in for the day), and the eventful "Wet T-Shirt Contest" there were also water balloons being thrown by neighboring houses (which quickly stopped after coming way to close to the sound equipment).
The stronghold of the party (other than the amply flowing alcohol consisting of kegs and jungle juice) was the music. Infinite Beats, comprised of DJ Prism (Sati Hillyer), Kid Phusion (Jason Yue), DJ Jeam (Jose Alvarez) and DJ Q (Mike Morales), never let the party down with their constant flow of kickin', groovin' music.
I'm sure Pike had no unhappy customers that day. The party lasted a good seven hours at least without interruption (One of the only parties that can boast that fact). Any of my reservations about day parties and my uncertainties about Pike's parties have come to an end.
See you this weekend, at whatever place is happening. And kudos to all the Pike boys, you guys rock.Until next time, be good.
