"Me lost me cookie on the dance floor, me lost me cookie at the boogie-woogie ..." - Cookie Monster, "Sesame Street."
Well my friends, the endless stream of midterms, papers, projects and oh yeah, two jobs has meant no CD shopping time for me. It also meant no fun at the plethora of kickin' shows in the area, so instead, I've been poking about on the Web and I found some pretty cool MP3s for y'all to check out.
First on my list: "White Trash Puppet Show" by Stunt Monkey.
This song is pretty funny. With lyrics like, "There's your man with the farmer's tan in the Chevy Malibu ..." it definitely gets you hopping. The intro and chord progressions are reminiscent of early Green Day, but the comparisons stop there. Stunt Monkey offers up a fun song - well, unless you are like the people the song talks about, then you might find it insulting - and although the subject matter is similar, I like it a lot more than an episode of Jerry Springer. You can find this MP3 and others from Stunt Monkey on their web site at www.stuntmonkey.net.
Song number two: "Break" by The Wynona Riders.
This song was pretty good, but the MP3 file was really bad. The sound was very staticy and took a lot away from the pop-punk genius of TWR's songwriting. You can find "Break" and "A Special Treat" on The Wynona Riders web site at: www.dnai.com/~standard/wr/meat.
My last pick: "The Day Rock 'n' Roll Died" by the Small Time Napoleons.
This song was awesome (to use an antiquated term). The arrangement was tight, the sound quality of the MP3 file was nice and clear and the song itself was pretty jumpin'. You can find this and other Napoleons' songs at their site: www.stoutrecordingstudio.com/napoleons or at MP3.com.
Summer is now looking for a MP3 of "Say No More Mon Amor" from the movie Empire Records, 'cause everyday should be Rex Manning Day. Peace, Love and Otter Pops!
