Record Heat hits Country before rainy days cover Santa Clara

Santa Clara Students were enjoying the warm spring weather around campus leading into Easter weekend until it quickly shifted to rain on Tuesday. Despite the rain, March temperatures are an average of 8.6 degrees above normal from past records.

Temperatures in 2012, have been six degrees higher than average so far, according to calculations by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. 

The magnitude of how unusual the year has been in the U.S. has alarmed some meteorologists who have warned about global warming. One climate scientist said it is the weather equivalent of a baseball player on steroids, with old records obliterated. 

Students have mixed feelings about the weather. Junior Mia Lopez, for example wishes for more sunshine, "This past weekend was great, nice and sunny," said Lopez. "I saw that it was going to rain for the rest of the week though, and I wasn't too happy about that. Some people like rainy days, but I wouldn't say I'm one of them. On the bright side, April showers bring May flowers!"
