[dropcap]S[/dropcap]anta Clara received one of its largest ever donations last week to the Center for Science, Technology and Society, which tackles global problems to address the needs of the world’s poor.

The $25 million donation comes from entrepreneur Jeff Miller and his wife, Karen. With the donation, the center can mentor a larger number of entrepreneurs, who come to the center aiming to solve global poverty, as well as fund more entrepreneurial ventures, according to a Santa Clara press release.

The Center for Science, Technology and Society will be renamed The Miller Center for Social Entrepreneurship.

Santa Clara will use the donation to begin fundraising for the new science, technology, engineering and math facility.

The facility will house the Maker Lab, which trains students to use engineering equipment, and the office of the graduate school of Engineering.

“All people deserve to live a dignified life,” Karen Miller said in a statement. “A dignified life means clean water, education, basic health needs  and a livelihood that they can be proud of.”

The Center for Science, Technology and Society currently has three departments which support global social entrepreneurship. One is the Global Social Benefit Institute, which provides free mentorship and guidance to entrepreneurs, who come to the center for assistance with developing organizations.
