TOLEDO, OHIO— Following a rain delay during Monday’s competition, Santa Clara men’s golf was able to complete its second and third rounds of the Inverness Intercollegiate on Tuesday, finishing fourth overall in the tournament. The team shot the day’s low score of 285, placing them one stroke behind Virginia and San Francisco, who tied for second, and eight shots behind first place Tennessee.Freshman Nordin van Tilburg led the Broncos lowscoring play in the third round, shooting a two-under 69 and moving up 14 places on the leaderboard to finish 14th overall.Their next contest will be held Oct. 8 at the Alister Mackenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif. SARATOGA, CALIF.— Santa Clara men’s water polo (3-4) was topped by San Jose State (4-2) 10-8 on Friday despite Broncos Mac Carey and Patrick Kirk each tallying two goals for the team. After being down by four-goal deficits on two separate occasions, Santa Clara tied the game up at 8-8 but lost the lead with 2:11 left in the final frame.San Jose scored again 30 seconds later, cementing their win over the Broncos. Men’s water polo will play again this Saturday, Sept. 29, when they host UC Davis in the Western Water Polo Association opener. SANTA BARBARA, CALIF.— Ranked No. 6 heading into their final preseason game, Santa Clara women’s soccer beat UC Santa Barbara 2-0 on Sunday, finishing nonconference play with six straight unbeaten matches. Goals came from freshman Skylar Smith in the 14th minute and then again in the 72nd by sophomore Kelsey Turnbow.The Broncos are off to their best start (9-1-1) since the 2001 season, where they began 10-1 in nonconference play and went on to win the national championship.Following their game at UCSB, Santa Clara women’s soccer has climbed the ranks to No. 4 in the country. STOCKTON, CALIF.— Broncos Volleyball (5-9, 0-2 WCC) fell to the University of Pacific on Tuesday night 25- 20, 25-18, 25-20 during a conference matchup.The Tigers’ Kaitlyn Lines tallied 18 kills on .486 hitting, including eight kills in nine attempts in the second frame. Allison Kantor shined for the Broncos, netting 12 kills on .476 hitting. Tuesday was the first of three matches for Santa Clara this week as they host Loyola Marymount Thursday at 7 p.m. and then Pepperdine Saturday at 1 p.m.
