Student allegedly assaulted on campus

Suspect not yet caught, investigation remains ongoingSophie MattsonTHE SANTA CLARASeptember 29, 2014Screen Shot 2014-09-29 at 12.17.57 PM[dropcap]C[/dropcap]ampus Safety Services has identified an individual suspected of punching a Santa Clara student in the face on Thursday.According to Philip Beltran, director of Campus Safety Services, the suspect allegedly walked up to the student, punched him in the face and walked away. The assault took place at approximately 3:20 p.m. as the student was walking between Graham and Campisi Halls. The suspect is currently at large.Beltran described the attack as “completely unprovoked” and said that the suspect was “talking a little crazy.” The suspect left the scene and was last seen walking through campus towards Lucas Hall. No drugs, alcohol or weapons were involved, according to Beltran.“One of my night teams earlier this year identified him as creeping around on campus, and they issued a trespass warning,” Beltran said.Sophomore Matt Kalbrosky, who witnessed the aftermath of the assault, said the student was hit in the eye and had a “slight cut” near it.The student was taken to the Cowell Health Center for medical attention.According to a Campus Safety Services alert sent out Friday, the assault suspect is a 27 year old white male that is bald with a goatee. He is also 5-foot-9-inches and 140 pounds.The suspect was last seen wearing a black shirt with a sun-shaped graphic, khaki shorts and a black backpack. Contact Sophie Mattson at smattson@scu.edu or call (408) 554-4852.
