On Wednesday, Oct 18, junior Maya Feit, a studio art major, unveiled her display of "Original Pieces" in the third-floor gallery of the Edward M. Dowd Art and Art History Building as the first of a new series of individual student displays in the school year. The show had charcoal and acrylic works, including her own favorite piece titled "95053," an homage to the beautiful Mission Gardens and the campus zip code they sit on, with great color work and detail. The piece won the Departmental Pictorial Award at the Juried Art Show last year.

Feit's new show included a reception on the day of opening, where photos were taken and Feit talked about the work she curated for this exhibit. She spoke about the experience: "I'm grateful to have the chance to show off my hard work… These are all paintings I've made in classes at University here. I've put in a lot of hours…It's cool to have my effort and creativity recognized by others." She went on to talk about the experience of having friends see her show and having professors reach out to say they enjoyed seeing her art.

Feit's exhibit was the first student show to take place in the third-floor gallery of Dowd this year, and there are many more to come. Feit said she was, "excited to get the year running because there's going to be a lot of students showing their work in the third-floor gallery in Dowd… It's pretty exciting to show off some work and I can't wait to see the other students' work as well."

Feit spoke about the close-knit community that the Santa Clara University Art and Art History Department fosters: "I feel like we have a really strong art department here. The professors are really engaging and really caring for their students on both their undergrad and postgrad journeys." As for her own artistic development, Feit is grateful for the chance to get her name out there and is glad to have the opportunity to network with this experience. She is exploring graphic design and digital marketing as she develops her career plans and artistic skills in her third year at Santa Clara University.

Feit's work will be on display through October 30.
